Pitch your game and be yourself like…
WHO?
You may not know Edinson Volques.
I didn’t either until five minutes ago.
You may not know baseball but you do know sports.
Edinson Volques is baseball pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates and he’s pitching tonight against the San Francisco Giants in a wild card playoff game.
He’s a 31 year-old who was almost washed up last year (if you can be washed up and still sign a $5 million one-year conract–hey, it’s baseball!).
He was obtained by Pittsburgh on the off-chance he could help at the bottom of the rotation.
A coach, Ray Searage, saw something in Edinson and helped him in spring training. He says of the Volques, “He felt wanted. That builds trust.”
Yes it does.
He certainly wasn’t wanted by the San Diego Padres, a not-very-good team, who dropped him at the end of last season.
Not their fault. He had an ERA of 6.01 which means he gave up 6 unearned runs (opponents hit him hard) for every nine innings he pitched. Not a stat that is going to win you friends or keep you in the major leagues.
But the coach and the pitcher worked hard, played well, went 13-7 on the season (won and lost) with an ERA of 3.04,and now he’s starting this game.
If the Pirates win, they go to the playoffs. If they don’t, they go fishing.
Here’s the thing. When asked how he’s going to feel tonight in the biggest game of his life, he said:
“I’ve got to pitch my game and be myself.”
We all do.
But it’s hard. And you need someone to believe in you.
I believe in you.
If you are not pitching your own game I can help you discover your real self and succeed on your own terms.
Fed up with life not working? The game going wrong?
But you feel, you know, you can win?

Do it now while you are thinking about it!
Pitch your own game.
I’ll be your coach.
P.S. The game’s at a 8 p.m. on TV. Should be fun!
P.P.S. Here’s the whole story by Will Graves of the Associated Press.
