I was hacked in a minor way a month ago. Somebody got into my email system and emailed some (not all…don’t know why that was) that I was stranded without funds in another country.
Anyone who knows me knew it was not really me (somebody said the spelling was wrong!)
The worst thing was that the idiot removed all of my email contacts!
That was troubling, annoying and time-consuming to repair. (Not even sure if it is completely repaired yet.)
When celebrities get hacked–think of those nude photos of actresses a couple of weeks ago- many people felt those people should not have posted those pics in the first place.
Laura Bzowy writes about that in Celebrity Psychings.
She asks if you have ever been the victim of a rumour or gossip? What about people who are deliberately stalking others and exposing personal things and what does that mean for privacy on the Internet in the future. She quotes Max Mosley:
“Your privacy or your private life belongs to you. Some of it you may choose to make available, some of it should be made available, because it’s in the public interest to make it known. The rest should be yours alone. And if anyone takes it from you, that’s theft and it’s the same as the theft of property.” – Max Mosely (From the News of the World scandal)
The lesson is to be careful about what you post, and what pics or other personal data you allow to slip through common guards.
The article is somewhat superficial but the subject warrants attention.
We get upset when telemarketers call us in the evening.
Hacking into our computer is far worse.
If you need help with communication (or lapses in your processes of handling it it, let me know.)
Good communication is necessary to self-preservation and self-development.
When our personal communication systems get broken into, we feel violated.
Clearly, we have to be more vigilant.
