Lack of Self-Knowledge: Reason #4
#4 People don’t get to know themselves because they think it will take too long.
Well, in truth, it takes the rest of your life, because we humans are much more complicated than computers and getting to know yourself is more complicated than your computer.
(That might not seem right when you are wrestling with the machine!)
But it won’t take up your life. In fact, you learn about yourself every day, all day by simply being aware of the thoughts you have and the decisions you make.
You learn incrementally, almost by osmosis when you know what to look for and how to look for it.
I can prove that to you in one minute.
Consider this:
If you have a serious problem in life but you don’t know its cause (so you don’t know how to solve it), the answer lies in self-knowledge.
If you do not know yourself, three bad things will happen to you.
- You will not be in the right line of work.
- You will not be with the right person.
- You will not be happy.
The last one follows from the first three.
You will make wrong decisions in the main areas of life (career and mate selection in particular) and you will continue to make those poor decisions until you die unless and until you again self-knowledge.
That’s harsh, but it is demonstrably true.
